Laois Sports Partnership (LSP) is a leader in local sports development in Ireland and is one of the founding partnerships. The LSP initiative was developed by the Sport Ireland in order to create a national structure to co-ordinate and promote the development of sport at local level. Sport Ireland identified that the effective development of sport and recreation at the local level would be best delivered through the adoption of a partnership approach between all bodies and organisations involved in the delivery of sport and recreation.

The LSP was established following a successful bid to Sport Ireland in May 2001. The board of Laois Sports Partnership was completed in May 2002 with the appointment of representatives through an open forum from primary and secondary schools, sports clubs and organizations, sports providers and the Laois Disability Network. The Board of Laois Sports Partnership is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and for monitoring and reviewing the delivery of the LSP strategy which is currently 2022-2026 entitled ‘Everyone Active in county Laois’. The Board have also established sub-committees to assist with efficiently carrying out the functions of the company:

  • Executive Committee
  • Finance Audit and Risk Committee (FARC)

The Finance Audit & Risk Committee sit outside the board of the LSP and have advisory capacity only and report regularly to the board to support decision making on finances, risks and audits. The Executive Committees function is to oversee management of the LSP and feed information/ report to the board for decision making.
